The BEST Shampoo—really!
When I decided to start a blog for Bichon lovers, I resolved to only recommend products that are proven winners—of course this is subjective, since Diamond and I are the only judges :) Diamond always gets compliments on the whiteness and softness of his coat, and some folks have asked me what dog shampoo I use on him. My answer: Buddy Wash—it’s soap free, has non-irritating natural ingredients, rinses easily, and—best of all—smells yummily and keeps his coat fresher in between shampoos than others I’ve used. No need to throw away your $$ on more expensive brands. This is really good stuff! We think it’s the best dog shampoo…(note: Amazon seems to have the best price. CUTE ITEM ALERT: Bichon Luggage Tag
I don’t know if you’re like me…I’m obviously very partial to all things featuring Bichons. But it seems challenging to find something tastefully cute. Recently, I’ve come across this great Bichon luggage tag. Seems like some celebs are also fans, like Oprah W., reportedly. Anyway, thought I’d share it with you all.

Choosing the Right Kibble for Your Bichon -
When Diamond transitioned to “big dog food” after a year on puppy food, I discovered that he had become quite picky. He would sniff the samples I got from pet food stores and walk away. So, I devised an experiment…I chose five different premium dog kibbles, placed them about a foot apart on the floor, and waited to see what Diamond would do. He went straight to one, sniffed it, and proceeded to eat it with gusto! The winner: Natural Balance’s Sweet Potato and Fish.
Your Bichon is What He Eats…Good Food Translates to Good Health
When Diamond was a puppy, I researched long and hard on what puppy food would be best. The first things I learned, were 1) Choose premium food whose main ingredients don’t include a lot of fillers and wheat products—you want protein to be the main ingredient here, and 2) Solid food is best—you’ll see a benefit in maintaining his dental health here,and 3) No need to supplement when you find the right kibble—these premium dog foods are balanced meals based on research and science. So there’s really no need to add a soft food mix or canned food.
For Diamond, the best match was the Wellness dry (very important, remember—it’s good for their teeth) puppy food pictured above.
A Bichon’s Best Friend!
The Bichon Frise’s coat is heavenly. It’s one of the things that makes owning a Bichon so great—running your fingers through his soft, fluffy coat. Keep that coat in great shape by brushing his coat every day, even if it’s just for a couple of minutes. It’ll save you a lot of grief and $$ at the groomer’s, trust me. Brushing time also makes for good bonding time and will keep those pesky mats and tangles at bay.
