Pet ownership is a commitment
With animal shelters getting more and more overcrowded, it’s heartbreaking to see so many dogs needing to be adopted. Sadly, more and more companion dogs seem to be disposed of too easily by their former owners. There surely must be extenuating circumstances for surrendering one’s dog to the shelter. But when I hear reasons like “I got a divorce,” or “I just...

Doggy Car Seats
Wanna make car rides even more enjoyable for your fluffy friend? Then consider getting a special doggy car seat. Most of these will be elevated, giving your pal a great view of everything. There are many choices out there (check out http://www.dogcarseats.cc/ or http://www.snoozer-dog-beds.com/dogcarseats.htm).
Very Important: Just make sure that the car seat you choose has some sort of...
Enjoy today
When we first got our pet, we knew that our time together would not be forever…sadly. But knowing that, we knew that we would make the best of it anyway, right? More than ever, I was reminded yesterday of how we should enjoy today to the fullest.
Our friends have a wonderful lab who most likely has cancer (sigh). I felt very sad when I felt the lumps in his body as I petted him. Guiltily, I...

Favorite Bichon Toys
I can only speak for one Bichon…but here are the two things my Bichon enjoys the most:
• tennis ball (he loves to run around with it, chase it, gnaw it…you name it)
• stuffed toy (make sure the eyes, ears, and mouth are sewed on and not the beady kind to be safe)
What about your own fluff, what toys does he/she enjoy the most?

Choosing the Right Kibble for Your Bichon →
When Diamond transitioned to “big dog food” after a year on puppy food, I discovered that he had become quite picky. He would sniff the samples I got from pet food stores and walk away. So, I devised an experiment…I chose five different premium dog kibbles, placed them about a foot apart on the floor, and waited to see what Diamond would do. He went straight to one, sniffed it,...

A little about me
I’m Theresa T., the owner of a Bichon bundle of joy named Diamond. My husband and I agonized about getting a puppy, since we had never owned dogs before. Then we met Diamond, and we were smitten. Since he joined our family, we’ve learned some things along the way. Some, through books and research. And others through trial and error—until we figured out what worked the best for us....
